Two Nobel Prizes


Linus, Carl Pauling, American Chemist, was the first man to win two individual Nobel Prizes in different disciplines. He was awarded Nobel Prize for Chemistry (1954) for work on nature of chemical bond. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1962 for opposition to nuclear tests.

In the 1960 Olympics at Rome 19-years-old Anita Lensborough won the gold medal in swimming by clocking the record in 2 minutes 49.5 seconds.

Norway's 14-years-old Frokin Sonza Henne won the gold medal in figure skating in 1928 Olympics at Amsterdam in Nether lands. She also won a gold medals each in the 1932 (Los Angeles, USA) and 1936 (Berlin, Germany) Olympics.

American Avery won the maximum of 10 gold medals. His childhood was spent on the wheel-chair. He was a victim of paralysis. For standing up and walking he invented a device for himself. By practising he made his feet strong. Later on, he became an expert in jumping.
