In the 1952 Olympic Games at Helsinki in Finland, Emil Zatopek of Czechoslo-vakia won three gold medals in 5000 metres, in 10,000 metres and in marathon (a-long distance of footrace about 26 miles). Before this he had not taken part in the marathon event. He won the gold medal at Helsinki and also set up a new record in marathon. His wife Dodge also won the gold medal by throwing the javelin (a light spear) at 165 feet 7.05 inches. thus for the first time in history of the Olympic Games, the husband-wife pair won gold medals.

In the 1952 Helsinki Olympic Games 19-years old Jean Boiteux of France, won the Olympic gold medal in swimming by clocking the record in 4 minutes, 3.7 seconds.
